Responding to Incidents
Follow-Up Investigations
Detectives should at minimum advise dispatch when out on follow up investigations with the time of arrival on scene and the time of clearing. They should also advise dispatch of the CFS # to attach the call to.
Distribution and Sales of Drugs
Detectives should utilize all procedures outlined in Undercover Procedures when running sting operations with a UC. During all Sting Operations the commanding officer of the Team will at minimum have an OPS Plan, have a crash team, and inform dispatch of location and time of the ongoing incident.
Missing Persons
Detectives should coordinate with the highest ranking officer on scene. Once coordination is made, the detective should establish an investigation into the point last seen for a possible crime scene. They should also do a second interview with the reporting parties or family if possible. If needed, the detective should work on paperwork for phone ping, and entering a BOLO for the party into the CAD system.
Dead Bodies
Detectives should coordinate with the highest ranking officer on scene. Establishment and processing of the crime scene is to be led by the Detectives Unit. Detectives should interview and canvas the area as needed, Patrol can begin but Detectives should follow up as needed. Detectives should follow the investigatory procedure as warranted via the case.
Breaking and Entering
Detectives should coordinate with the highest ranking officer on scene. Establishment and processing of the crime scene is to be led by the Detectives Unit. Detectives should interview and canvas the area as needed, Patrol can begin but Detectives should follow up as needed. Detectives should follow the investigatory procedure as warranted via the case.
Robberies
Detectives should coordinate with the highest ranking officer on scene. Establishment and processing of the crime scene is to be led by the Detectives Unit. Detectives should interview and canvas the area as needed, Patrol can begin but Detectives should follow up as needed. Detectives should follow the investigatory procedure as warranted via the case.
Motor Vehicle Theft
Detectives should coordinate with the highest ranking officer on scene. Establishment and processing of the crime scene is to be led by the Detectives Unit. Detectives should interview the vehicle owner and place MV into the system for a BOLO if not already done. Detectives should follow the investigatory procedure as warranted via the case.
Arson
Detectives should coordinate with LSFR arson unit. Detectives are to be utilized in an investigatory manner not a supervisor's role. LSFR will lead the investigation with LSPD/BCSO being support for warrants and arrests only.
